Fact Check: Airstrike Video Does NOT Show October Attack By Hamas On Israel May '23 Video

Does a video on TikTok depict an Israeli village being bombed by Gaza in October 2023? No, that's not true: The video shows the Gaza Strip under attack during a previous conflict, in May 2023.

The claim appeared in a video (archived here) by @hot5156 on TikTok on October 8, 2023, under the title (translated from Korean to English by Lead Stories staff) "#이스라엘 #전쟁 #폭팔" or "#Israel #war #explosion." It read:

The video captures airstrikes in Gaza in May 2023. The video misleadingly claims that it depicts an ongoing Hamas airstrike against an Israeli village. However, the actual event shown is an Israeli airstrike on Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip on May 13, 2023.

The video can be traced back to a May 2023 YouTube upload by The Associated Press. The video is titled "Israeli strike hits house in northern Gaza," and its description clearly states that it was recorded on May 13, 2023, in Beit Lahiya. The original footage is archived by both The Associated Press and Voice of America. It documents a conflict between the Islamic Jihad Group and Israel.
