Fact Check: Glass Bottle Was NOT Thrown During President Yoon Speech In June 2023 Never Happened

Was a glass bottle thrown at South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol while he delivered a speech? No, that's not true: The video showing Yoon speaking during an appearance in June 2023 to promote South Korea's bid for the 2030 World Expo does not show a bottle or any other projectile thrown at or near the speaker. Additionally, a news search reveals no report of such an attack by the multiple news agencies gathered to cover the event.

The claim originated from a video (archived here) where it was published by @bj_ssak3 on TikTok, on August 4, 2023, with a caption translated into English from Korean by Lead Stories staff that reads:

A glass soda bottle was thrown at Yoon in the middle of his speech, and it is trending now.

This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing:

The author shows a video clip from a speech given by President Yoon Suk Yeol during a June 20, 2023 presentation to promote the South Korean city of Busan to host the 2030 World Expo. The event was also attended by such high-profile speakers as Korean musical artist PSY and was aired in reports on several South Korean TV channels at the time. The full video of Yoon's speech can be seen on the government-owned cable television channel KTV in South Korea and gives no visual indication that a bottle or projectile was thrown at the president or any other speaker during this event.

Moreover, there was no report of an incident involving a glass bottle attack following the event, and a search on Google conducted by Lead Stories on December 4, 2023, for "윤석열 유리병" (Yoon Suk-yeol AND glass bottle) with translation into English from Korean provided by Lead Stories staff (archived here) found no relevant news report from any local or global news media.
